Recently government put one day ban on national news channel NDTV. This raises many questions on the existence of free speech in the country. The government says that media persons are citizens first and journalists next. While news media houses are alleging the return of emergency kind of situations under Narendra Modi government.

Have a constructive debate on this topic and offer plausible solutions to incidents like this so as to not occur in future.

As we know that Media is known as Fourth pillar of Indian Democracy. The other three are Executive, Legislative and Judiciary.
the best thing about our country's law is no power is dictate in itself, in every power we got some restrictions so that doesn't dictate in future. And that can be a disaster to our world's largest democracy. But now fourth pillar aka Media doing good and bad work both in same time. First they are showing deep knowledge about army operation, they are risking their life to bring news for us, so that we can aware about this situation, and know the real work of our army and forces.
But on the other hand terrorist groups are using them for better navigation and good approach to our force's strategy. We had many casualties because of these live and deep journalism. So GoI introduced laws of airing news. That made some restrictions on FOURTH PILLAR. people objected this. But we, as an Indian, should understand that only prohibiting for not showing live and deep session of Attack on T.v. is not hurting Media's freedom. It's just for the welfare of state and army personnel. So ban on those channels who intentionally or unintentionally aired the secret details of attacks or army data, that should be banned with a last warning.

And as a media, we should understand that if u want to show something india than show corruption video, rooting out corruption is still in your hand, have your eyes on govt. works and policies implementation, then criticise them and request (don't order) to people of india and judiciary for better solutions.

Media is well known for their courageous efforts. So now they should use their channels for better advertisement of govt. policies, some huminaty news, positive news. What media had done in pre independence time for freedom of India, it can also be active like that to make India poverty free, corruption free.

News reporting has to be in the clear ambit of law.

The governement has established " clause 6(1) of programme code of the cable television network rules 1994.

This clause prohibits live coverage of anti terrorism operations and restricts media coverage to periodic briefings by a designated officer.

This is important because the terrorists in Mumbai were being regularly fed about operational deployments of Indian secuirity by their handlers in Pakistan. they secured this information from live coverage of several TV networks.

NDTV was in clear violation of this code.
If the gov't does not implement laws it sets a bad precedent and is unhealthy for law abiding nature of citizens.

Here the law is also necessary in the interest of national security.

Complaining that many media houses were also in violation of this is childish.

However , there needs to be more narrower guidelines to help the media decide what is clear of law and what is not to restrict the sweeping interpretative powers of the Gov't.

We live in a hyper-information age and media has to be responsible and not give in to sensationalism.

As terrorism expert Brian jenkins says: "terrorism is theater".
We should ensure that media does not feed into the fire.smile
